GOkey: Charger. Cable. Locator. Memory. All on your key-ring.

the goKey is probably what you’ve been waiting for. It is an amazing project, which you’ll discover by reading until the end.

First, it has a 400 mAh battery, enough to last you around 2h on an iPhone 5s which has a 1440 mAh battery. according to my very scientific research, that account for 36% of the iPhone’s battery, which is realistic for its size. To check the remaining battery, Gokey has an accelerometer which allows it to recognize a shake gesture, telling you how much more it has left with three colors: red is low, green is full, and orange charging.

next it has both a USB cable at the end of the key part, and the lightning connector wraps around the rounded part in a very nice manner, meaning it can also be used as a simple cable, to charge or to sync data like with any cable. Basic stuff.

Aaaaand more interestingly, it includes a features many projects already advertised heavily: a bluetooth locator. That means, that if you lose your phone, by pressing on the goKey, it makes the phone ring, just like calling it from another phone would do, but when you are alone, you probably don’t have two phones. Or if you do, that’s pretty lame. Meh. THAT’S NOT ALL ! it works both ways ! if you lose your keys, or more accurately the goKey and anything attached to it, the goKey app helps you find it  and makes it ring at the same time ! I guess the excuse “I lost my keys isn’t valid anymore… Well I guess we have to adapt.

Finally, when you thought it could’t go any further than this, sometimes, once upon a hundred times, a projects stands out and succeed where so many have failed. The goKey provides either 8, 16 or 32gb options. For now it is only accessible via the USB cable, so not on the iPhone, but the MFI certification of another project which does just that, external memory available in iphone apps, tells me it could get into either this version or the next.

Fellow enthusiast have a few ideas for enhancing an already incredible project, which may or may not be included in the stretched goals, as so far there hasn’t been any. What most call for is the possibility to access data from the iPhone, which is a hurdle to get certification for, USB 3.0 which I haven’t even thought of mainly because my Macbook air from 2011 doesn’t has it and i’ve never felt the need for it, an increase in battery which the team is said to be working on the best they can, and the possibility of using it as a PowerPoint presenter for presentations to skip slides, which I find great and feasible with current hardware If I am not mistaken.

What’s more, the project has a referral system which refunds you 10$ everyone pledges from your own personal link. So far 20 people already won’t have to pay a single dim for their goKey. If you have friends and a network, there is a strong chance that might be your case too ! at the least you’ll probably get at least one 10$ off, which is better than nothing.

So hurry up to get yours, as there is a limited number of units still available !

DoorJamz is a fully customizable doorbell controlled by your smartphone

I previously talked about wifi doorbell, and the awesome lockitron, but this doorbell has a different goal: it just enables you to play your music, placed on an SD card, and control everything using your Iphone. It can also schedule the sound for naps, etc. Finally, you can schedule for the year which music you want to be played everyday. Oh, and I almost forgot it has a motion detector instead of a button, and that every time it rings, a snapshot is sent to your device. Will you remember all of this ? I don’t think I will, but I certainly like the original design of the DoorJamz:

before heading to their indiegogo project, you might want to check this funny video they made:

Bantam wallet can block or not your RIFD cards

bantam1

I like RFID blocking wallet for protection against geek thieves, but sometimes I do also like when I can actually use them IN the wallet to. Well someone must have though of people like me when doing the Bantam wallet, because it can either stop all RIFD, one side, or even none ! How do you do that ? just insert a RIFD super-thin protection in your wallet, that is.

bantam2

Of course, now that you know the secret, you can maybe adapt the idea to your own wallet, but these are the exact format of the bantam, and if it’s for protection, better be sure it protect 100%. But if you are a DIY kind of guy, try it, otherwise just go for this nice looking model, minimalist and all, only 4mm thin (not with cards in of course :p),  premium quality leather from Australia.

The wallet is going to launch on indiegogo on the 3rd of April, but you can also visitJames Watson’s  website for further information : JamesWatson.com.au.

telepresence at its best: KUBI, a robotic Ipad stand for video calls.

Before the video, I wasn’t very exited about the project. Kubi looked like a bicornuate to me. But I soon realized It was one of the object I’ll save money for, thinking about it everyday. I’m like that.

So KUBI is a robotic Ipad stand you can control from the other side of the world, a bit like the Romo, but the it is for Iphone only and can move around. But KUBI isn’t a toy: It’s a tool first designed for pros, not for amusement, that’s why the design is more sober than the romo.

The romo is controlled by the app, wich works like this:

the only downside to this app, but it is not their fault, is that the two caller need the app. You can also call with facetime, but you won’t be able to make the KUBI move by tapping the screen, but through a web browser, on another tablet or computer.

The KUbi is for the moment on indiegogo, waiting for your to back it. You can get it for 200$.

better than fitbit, the amiigo, a social fitness tracker

at first I wasn’t really enthusiast about the amiigo, what looked like the same object as the fitbit. then I realized the full potential of such a device, and how FitBit is just a baby step in the fitness tracker industry.

what does it do better than any other tracker ?

For first there is a foot bracelet, to improve the data captured by the device.

Secondly, the program is made to recognize what type of exercise is being done. It even recognize the difference between running and treadmill. What to ask more ?

The amiigo is pre) selling now in undiegogo

the Olive One: the idea of the All-in-One Home Music Player comes true

the Olive One is a recessive idea in music management: create a tactile experience in the living room for easy music listening. But it’s not just a utopian concept created on paint by a jobless designer. It actually looks good, and fell easy to navigate. First, the design is cool, nobody would deny it:

the only little downside I would find here is the shape of the screen, which could have been round, but it’s not really important. And it can be mounted to walls. You can also add huge speakers under the One, just like this:

Secondly, the OS doesn’t come from nowhere and looks really efficient: It combines youtube, Pandora, Spotify, Deezer, Aupeo, Songza, and many more. That means if you have a Spotify account, You can stream all you music seamlessly to your Olive One. this makes the olive one even more useful, in my opinion.

The Olive one can easily connect to other One around, making it possible to listen to your music in all the house at the same time, just like airplay promised a few years ago. It connects over wifi to all your Wi-fi enabled speakers, including those directly sold by them, which can also be put under each other to create a sound tower. In this way, the Olive music system is very flexible.

Thirdly what we all want know is to control all of this with our smartphone or tablets. So logically, A free IOS and Android app is coming with the Olive One, and a windows 8 app too is scheduled. The Olive also has this weird function to connect to your TV, which is said to become the center of our modern home, although people like them don’t think this way; So why sink the boat you’re sailing with ? Well I don’t know.

The Olive One also has Twitter and facebook connectivity, which means you can share the music or videos you are watching with, well, your followers and friends. It also has a 1TB hard drive, large enough for almost any music library. IT also functions as a personal cloud, so if you are abroad, you can connect yo you Olive on your smarthone and play the songs and videos in there, just like any NAS or cloud solutions.

That is how it looks mounted on a wall, it just the dream of every music moler ( at least me):

If, in any case, you liked this article, you can, if you want, tell me about it or like this post 🙂
