Helios Bars – Transform any bike into a smart bike.

if you know about fixie, then you probably don’t want to add extra lights, speed counters, GPS to your bike. It would make it ugly. Helio bars can do all of it, in the bar:

The two models proposed, the bullhorn and the drop style look absolutly gorgeous :

The Helios includes one front light, which seems decently powerful, two side lights, which you can activate in blinking re when turning, a Low powered GPS, and a speed counter, which can make the two rear lights change color accordingly:

What’s more, the Helios comes with an iPhone app, in which you can set light color, anda bluetooth proximity sensor wich will light the bike when you arrive. The GPS function sin’t really included in the app, but a weird SMS system allows you to text your bike, and it will respond the exact location. I would have preferred a real time map, but for some reasons, it isn’t there.

Anyway, the Helios bars is the best bike gadget I’ve seen so far, and I’ll definitely buy one soon !

HiddenRadio2 bluetooth speaker is overwhelmingly good

A long time has passed since my last post, but rejoice, today’s awesome product might make you excuse me for that.

Introducing HiddenRadio2, a revision of the first iteration of the name HiddenRadio, which was rather well received by tech critics. The main drawback were FM usability and Sound not being so great after all.

but both of these concern seem to have been resolved with this year’s product.

In response to the hood muffling the sound and more generally relatively poor deep and eerie high, The team implemented a top of the line technology called dual “speaker neodymium“. Let see what that really means. Apparently they have a “high output to weight ratio which makes them ideal for a number of portable applications”. Perfect for the HiddenRadio2 isn’t it ? the result is cristal-clear highs and cavernous deeps:

About the FM radio, well, there is none now. Get over it. Life moves on. Honestly what use is there to an FM radio when you’ve got all these application that can stream thousands of radios from the internet like TuneIn Radio ?

But that is not all folks ! You did not honestly though it would be it did you ? HiddenRadio2 has still 3 main features you ant to hear about:

Let’s go over them from left to right, right ? That would totally makes sense. But let’s do the contrary like true anarchists.

Magic lift means you just have to touch the top to boot up the device like and raise the top like it’s an elevator from Star Trek or something.

Smart control is actually more or less the same thing as magic lift, in the way it uses the touch sensor on the top to enable simple control: tap once to pause, tap twice to go forward, or draw a circle clockwise to increase the volume. Hell yeah, you can even call siri ! As the HiddenRadio2 has noise-canceling mics and hands free calls software, My guess is that you’ll start using Siri a lot more with the Speaker than before. Anyway my thought is that it’s pretty damn cool.

Multipoint, I think you’ve guessed by now enables you to connect to multiple speakers at once. Two different use case: you can have one in each room, or enable stereo and use them to watch a movie or something.

Lastly, the battery last a whooping 15 hours, which is not the highest in the portable speakers jungle but still in the high end. It can deliver some 90db, meaning you’ll suffer hearing loss if you stay around it at max volume for too long.          In case the design wasn’t obvious enough, the HiddenRadio2 has a 360° sound, how could it not.

To conclude, I’de say that for 149$, it’s a rather admirable deal, if the sound is indeed better than before. However don’t wait for the kickstarter campaign to end, as retail versions will sell for some 199$. Whatever, just take a look at this comparaison, you won’t argue very long

Life-proof battery pack launches on kickstarter

there are as many external batteries for mobiles devices as there are battery low warning. It never stops. every week, another company launches a revolutionary product. It often isn’t. This time though, the claim is justified.

The Zendure isn’t one, but three different batteries: 9000, 12 000, 15 000 mah.

First, the basic model can charge 8.5 times an iPhone. That’s huge. It can also be run over by a car. You know, just in case you wanted to try.

The Zendure can actually charge while being charged, meaning you don’t even need an adapter for you smartphone cable when you leave to an exotic country.

Unlike the battery of any electronic device, the battery can stay 95% charged after 6 month without being used a single time.

There is no need to boot the Zendure. The battery detects when a cable is plugged-in, and boots up the battery.

And Voila ! I think I’ve just given you 4  killer features that’ll make you want to rush to their campaign. Am I being a little over-enthusiastic ? That’s possible :p. But bear in mind that no other battery can achieve the last 3 features !

Let’s fund Wally case !

I already talked about Wally Wallet, but the wally case differs a little it includes a physical case:

Apart from that, the wally wallet is the same, the idea behind it hasn’t changed: you can put a few credit card and swipe them out in an easy and funny way:

I guess If I had one I would spend the entire day opening and closing :p.

However, everything isn’t bright in Distil Union: The Wally case is not going to get funded, unless you help them, and soon ! The campaign still has 4 days to go, and as the creators put it, they just need 75 backers to successfully launch the Wally Case on kickstarter !

Hex: A copter that anyone can fly!

I apologize for copying their own title, but the basic principle of their quadrocopter couldn’t be explained in a better way.

I love quadrocopters. I though about buying the nanocopter, but it requires a pc and PS3 controller to work. I have a mac, and even if I did have a PC, I don’t really like the idea of having to move around a computer to control a toy. On the other hand, there is the smartphone-controlled  parrot AR drone, which retails for 300€. Not for me.

This one combines the best of the two worlds.

It’s at the same time rather cheap, user-friendly, it can record video, and supports different add-on which can be purchased later. The frame is 3D printed, and can be changed anytime.

As Hex is gaining more and more attention from the DIY community and online press, and has already 26 times their initial pledge, some stretched goals are coming, free of charge:

You still have a lot of time to preorder Hex, as their campaign still has 32 days left to go.

TRACE activity monitor for action sports

Activity monitors are common. Running and cycling ones especially. There are a tons of these out there, which can keep track of tons of useful data: heart rate, step’s length, kl, etc. Although i’m a cycling fan’ these devices usually don’t appeal to me much. All I want to know is my average speed, top speed, how long it took, and compare it with other local bikers with strava.

However it happens I am an olympic-level snowboarder, and what differs in action sports compared to run/bike, is that there are many differents movements, forces, speed to keep track of. TRACE aims to be THE solution for all the frustrated skateboards/Surfers/Snowboarders that can’t have this kind of data, expect with outrageously expensive hardware

i’m not a fan of surfing and skating, so that’s why I’m mainly focusing on snowboard, but know that the creator of the TRACE have thought of all three sport equaly: all have their own app in the app store: RE surf, RE skate, RE snow. Here are some screenshot or the beta versions of theses apps, which seem to be at an advanced stage:

For Skaters: Profile, Visit Detail, Trick Detail

For Surfers: Visit Detail, Profile, Graph Detail

AlpineReplay: Graph Detail, Newsfeed, Run Breakdown

TRACE works with bluetooth 4.0 and WiFI, but doesn’t need to be connected to your smartphone to work (which would be hard while surfing for example. It is still possible to get TRACE for 129$, although it maddens me a bit that the early bird version was 30$ cheaper and will ship 3 weeks early.

the compact wallet is the perfect compromise between accessibility and minimalism (hands-on review)

Hey guys ! today is a great day 😀 want to know why ? It’s my first ever hands-on review ! Let’s get started !

I saw, from far many, many, MANY minimalist wallets on kickstarter. the first one was, If I remember well, the slim. since then, and their incredible succes (220 000$), nobody can count how many young designers hoped to achieve the same. Kickstarter tells me there are 121 projects with “wallet” in their name. That’s huge. So how can the compact stand out of the plethora of those ? Well, in fact, by not trying too. Many want to innovate too much, and come up with ridiculous ideas, like this one if you want to laugh.

Anyway, my wallet used to be a mighty wallet, which already aims to make wallets thinners:

in real life, with all my cards inside, it looked like this:

2013-04-24 12.55.38   2013-04-24 12.56.58

Not so bad, but I don’t have much to cary, as you can see. After making a few sacrifices, here is what I choose to put in my compact wallet:

2013-04-24 12.58.31

As the compact wallet only has one metallic piece, the thickness is only the cards and the rubber band. After putting my cards in, It was about 0,8cm.

After a few days of use, I find it easier to manage than my previous wallet. cards couldn’t fall out, and the little clipping made it easier to stretch the rubber band and acces my cards. If you don’t have a tons of cards in it, as they propose no more than 12, but honestly, I’de say no more than 8, after that, the rubber band’s too stretched to mange easy acces to them.

What I also find great is the possibility to separate two deck you cards. I personally put business cards and fidelity cards on one side, and other credit, assurance cards, etc on the other.

finally the metallic texture fells good, and looks good.

There are, however, a few disadvantages.

I won’t say it holds less cards than usual wallets, because that’s the aim, but if you want to transpose your old into this one, you will have a few troubles. It is made to change you wallet’s use.

First, there are only three colors, including black. I don’t even imagine using the green one with white rubber band. Never.

Secondly, the rubber band’s finition could have been better, but the metallic piece highly compensate this default.

What’s the verdict ? I’m gonna stick with this new wallet until I buy an Iphone, then I’ll probably buy the SAFE wallet for Iphone 5. It is a great minimalist wallet, better than many of them, but not the king yet.

The amazing remote quadrocopter car “B”

“B” could seem like any other quadrocopter around, with vertical circular protections to protect from shocks. The thing is, those innocent protection are also wheels !

As the wheels are taller than the body, it is theoretically possible to lad and the back, and continue driving. The transition from the two modes, driving and flying, can be achieved while moving forward.

The “B” lasts 15mn on a single charge; which isn’t that bad, and packs a HD camera onboard, as well as a microSD slot to save those videos. The Wheels are extremely flexible, making the “B” a kind of super 4×4 that can go anywhere.

WeCollaborate social crowndfunding for talents

Basically, instead of pledging money like traditional crowndfunding platforms, WeCollaborate enables people to work on an project with anybody who is interested in contributing to the project. Unlike TaskRabbit for example, WeCollaborate creates a lasting collaboration with the project owner. Instead of being paid 10€/$ for 1h worked on a very small part of something, like coding a webpage, WeCollaborate wants to involve in the project process those contributors.

There are different levels of participation, which don’t have the same kind of rewards. As WeCollaborate is a project from the prestigious Eindhoven Design Academy, it also features a workspace in kit, that all the projects collaborators built together. I don’t think this is what’s gonna be developed more, as the website idea is already worth a lot by itself, and even if it’s cool, I don’t see people buying tables just to built trust.

wodden keyboard for iMacs and Macbooks

to get an idea of how they look, I thought the wireless was the best example, but the keys are also available in a lighter tone, which I find more pleasant to look at:

Although the letters seem big, I imagine how comfortable it would be to type on these. You can find them on kickstarter, if they manage to launch the product.

the W/Me wristband mood and sport tracker

We know about many functionalities on fitness tracker: sleep cycles, steps, calories burned, which sport is being performed, social sharing, in-depth statistics  etc. However what I’m sure I haven’t seen yet is a mood tracker. And that is, among other things, what the W/ME can do.

W:ME

The W/ME (I know weird name) has countless features:

  • HISTORY
  • ANS AGE
  • COACHING
  • AGILITY SCORE
  • HEART RATE
  • NOTIFICATIONS
  • NEVER FORGET YOUR PHONE/FIND YOUR PHONE
  • FACEBOOK CHECK-IN
  • REMOTE CAMERA SHUTTER TRIGGER
  • W/Me CLOUD

I thinks that’s about all, If you want more info about those 10 features, their project page will explain it better than me.

Don’t forget you can check my other blog: thislooksgood

world’s most beautiful 3D printer: colors and micron precision.

you may suppose I’m pitching it strong a bit. Well, maybe I am, but just look at this, and we’ll compare it to other 3D printers:

bot

the only one possible to horn in is the FORM 1 (I’m sorry about comparing every printer with the FORM, but it’s the most precise and the most beautiful to date !):

photo-full

We don’t have much infos on the ProDesk3D, but a feature stands out: It is able to print in different colors without changing the leed manually. It is also as precise as the FORM 1, as they are announcing 25 micron precision, meaning you can’t even see it.

The ProDesk3D by BotObjects isn’t selling yet, as they are still in development, but I’m felling a crowndfunding campaign will likely emerge sonner than later. For Now, they only have a one page Website.

P.S: don’t forget I started a new blog here, which if you liked this kind of stuff, will likely interest you as well 😉

BRCK creates a wifi hotspot with 4G or lower

I know, you can actually do the same with your iPhone. Absolutely  But the BRCK isn’t for everyday routine use. If you use your iPhone as hotspot, it usually only works in your country, or you’ll end up paying 200 000$. Really. The other solution, if your stuff needs wifi more than often, is BRCK.

BRCK

It does look a bit rough (they call it ruggedness) but hey, you know, that’s the spirit ! adventure ! rough durable stuff ! does Rambo wear louis Vuitton to kill viets ?

For the technical stuff, it can connects to devices via Wifi of course, but also ethernet, if you choose to take your 30 year old computer on a safari in Middle Africa. If you’re like everybody on this planet, you don’t.

One of the interesting feature of the BRCK is that it comes with a BRCK cloud. That means it has 16gb of super rough durable storage, that you can access while using the Wifi network created by BRCK. the open API also means you can connect to services like dropbox or else. But this is pretty useless. If you have Wifi and a computer/smartphone, you can access dropbox by these simple devices. Anyway that’s possible.

On top of these supper features, the creators of the project offer you premium software crowdmap, which they developed.

Still  not convince it could be of some use one day ? If you treavel, you’ll understand the huge potential of such a device. It costs quite a arm or two though, but check for yourself.

Limeade 18,000 mAH battery fits in your hand, and can charge your iPhone 12 times

There are many external batteries for iPhones, some in cases, some not, but except super expensive models, they can charge iPhone once or twice. Not so good. This battery aims to be at the same time huge and as small as it can possibly be.

Actually, there are three different models: 13 000, 15 600, 18 000 mAH:

But this battery isn’t dull. It actually has a few advantages you may not knew you needed.

First, it can charge two devices at a time, like your Ipad and your iPhone, basically:

It is rechargeable by 2A, meaning it can charge in about 10h, or around a night.

It has a safety flashlight, you know, just in case you’re in the middle of nowhere and the only thing you have with you is your Limeade battery. It has a charge indicator with 4 LED, not very precise, but useful to know when the battery needs to be plugged in. It also comed with a 30 pin and micro usb cable, but no lightning cable, which are used by iPhone 5 and iPads.

To finish off, here is a table which shows how many times each device can be charged:

  • Apple iPhone 4 or 5: ~12.5 times
  • Samsung Galaxy S III: ~8 times
  • Samsung Galaxy Note: ~7 times
  • Amazon Kindle Fire: ~4 times
  • Apple iPad 1 or 2: ~2 times
  • Google Nexus 4: ~8.5 times
  • Google Nexus 10: ~2 times
  • Sony PSP: ~11 times
  • Apple iPod Nano: ~171 times

As you notice, you can’t use it with you PC or mac. It’s not the right voltage. Anyway, if you want to buy this monster, hurry up, they are selling like hotcakes !!!

Embrace+ connected bracelet keeps you up informed, without getting your smartphone out.

As you can see, the embrace+ doesn’t only target the geeks, but also the cool people that wear white shirts, and sexy women. At least I think that’s what the photo above tells us. Anyway, it doesn’t really matter. The embrace+ is a vibrating and luminous bracelet that alerts you of any notifications: calls, mails, facebook, skype, SMS, low battery and more.

If it isn’t clear enough in the image, and it isn’t, the app let you control which color. but that’s not all:

This one’s more explicit: the app lets you control the speed, blink, duration, intensity, vibration of the notification. enough settings to theoretically recognize at least 6 colors x4x4x4x4x4=6144 possibilities. In real life, i’de say around 30 different notifications can be perceived by the human brain. After that, it gets to confusing.

A final nice touch for the end: the embrace+ is entirely waterproof, lasts 10 days with 100 notifications a day, and charges in ten minutes via micro-usb. The embrace+ is re-trying to get funding on kickstarter now, after a failed tentative. However, this time, they have already reached their funding goal, as they managed to reduce cost: the embrace costs only 49$.

rollin’slide case for Iphone 5 seems to be able to do anything

If you read it before, just know that the project relaunched recently.

The Rollin’slide one of the best Iphone case out there. Let’s see why.

First the idea is a case that slides, allowing easier universal docking:

So that’s the main feature of the rolling slide case. But what it can also do is contain one credit card in between the case and the Iphone. Sliding the case allows easy access to it:

Recently, this feature has become more and more mainstream, so it shouldn’t appear as a mind-blowing feature. What is indeed a H bomb-blowing feature is the little fragrance stick (yes you read right, perfume), an accessory mostly aimed for the ladies, although It isn’t absolutely forbidden to us, men, to use it.

Wait ! that’s not all ! The space used by the fragrance stick can also be used for a usb key (8gb) little less “tendance” than perfume, but a lot more useful for sure.

Last but not least feature, a small screen cleaner can be put in this space as well. I personally prefer the usb stick, as no on needs a screen cleaner, just use your tee-shirt goddamnit ! Anyway don’t confound the perfume stick and the screen cleaner, they look kind of the same:

I fell like I’ve run a marathon, but no, it’s just another Iphone case. Or an incredible supernatural magnificent multifunction case, you decide. If you really want it so badly as I do or want more infos about the rolling slide case, Go to kickstarter and see for yourself.

A few bottles on kickstarter

Recently, three sport bottles managed to raise more than 68 000$ on kickstarter, which is quite a lot, the best one currently has 186 000$, it’s the NAVA.

As you may notice, the particularity of this bottle is that it filters the water, something that existed on traditional water containers, but not on bootles. The kickstarter campaign is still running, so it’s still time to get yours !

The second one is the Umoro one, specially designed for fitness:

As the photos make it obvious, the Umoro allows you to put substances on the top part, then release it in the water when needed. I guess It has a use for some fitness-crazy people, but since I am not, I don’t get it. Maybe you do ?

And finally the last one, which is my favorite: The Square

You may have notice, the square is square. It’s aluminium. It can open from both sides, making it simpler to clean, by hand or in the dishwasher, as it is dishwasher-free. Even though it doesn’t include sf functionality, the design is so much better. In fact, the designers are formers Apple designers. What’s more, the water I drink is already treated, there’s no need for even more purification, and I don’t need to add drugs to my water to have big muscles and all. So this one’s perfect, at least for me.                    Link: www.consignd.com/shop/etienne-vandamme-9

What’s your favorite one ? I’de like to hear from you 🙂

sending music to two distinct bluetooth speakers with iPhone is now possible, thanks to Vertus

I believe the title says it all: this little jack add-on allows you to connect to two different speakers via bluetooth, something known to be impossible, bluetooth wasn’t meant to be used this way. Thanks to this product, the music goes through an unclear wireless connection. Anyway, if it works, who cares ?

The two jack input are supposed to be connected to the left and right speakers, then it will do the trick. The first one kind of takes the left band and left the right one to the other one.

It even has a sleek charging station that fits the aluminum style of the two gadgets:

As I do indeed have two Jambox, this will surely fits my needs. In case you are unfamiliar, you can uses these on any bluetooth speakers with a jack cable, meaning all of them: Jambox, boombox, Bose soundlink, etc.

At the time of writing, the last early bird must have sold out, so you’ll have to pay the 79$ on kickstarter before next month

FLAXUS, a stylus like you’ve never seen before !

There are indeed a lot of stylus in the wild, even though the guru of the main product stylus are used for didn’t found them of any use. Some of them use microwave bizarre technology to fell the pressure on the screen. Some can work on macs. Some even take the shape of a real cepillar ! And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Seems like everyone doesn’t agree on this point. You can find more great stylus here, but now let’s get to this one.

What is is selling point you might ask ? it works as a bracelet. Wear it around you wrist and use it when you want. It uses the same technique as this object, if you know it:

Now put a stylus on the two sides and here is what you got:

Touchscreen phone compatible

Fashion wrist bracelet

I don’t have any need for a stylus, but this one is just so gorgeous, I’ll buy one for display if I could. If you have any need for a stylus, well head here to get yours. Thanks for reading 🙂

charge your Iphone with your friend’s Iphone ? Now possible with chargebite

can you imagine the situation ? You don’t have any battery, but all of your friends or coworkers do. Why not borrow them a little power ? As simple as that:

ChargeBite compatibility

the chargebite is composed of 3 mini 30pin connector. One of them is used to receive power. The other two are used to send power. No battery, no cable. So tiny it fits on a keychain:ChargeBite attaches to your keychain

It seems like this project launched today or at least recently, so if you want to get your hands on the early birds, it is still time ! head over to their indiegogo project for more precisions on the chargeBite.
