GOkey: Charger. Cable. Locator. Memory. All on your key-ring.

the goKey is probably what you’ve been waiting for. It is an amazing project, which you’ll discover by reading until the end.

First, it has a 400 mAh battery, enough to last you around 2h on an iPhone 5s which has a 1440 mAh battery. according to my very scientific research, that account for 36% of the iPhone’s battery, which is realistic for its size. To check the remaining battery, Gokey has an accelerometer which allows it to recognize a shake gesture, telling you how much more it has left with three colors: red is low, green is full, and orange charging.

next it has both a USB cable at the end of the key part, and the lightning connector wraps around the rounded part in a very nice manner, meaning it can also be used as a simple cable, to charge or to sync data like with any cable. Basic stuff.

Aaaaand more interestingly, it includes a features many projects already advertised heavily: a bluetooth locator. That means, that if you lose your phone, by pressing on the goKey, it makes the phone ring, just like calling it from another phone would do, but when you are alone, you probably don’t have two phones. Or if you do, that’s pretty lame. Meh. THAT’S NOT ALL ! it works both ways ! if you lose your keys, or more accurately the goKey and anything attached to it, the goKey app helps you find it  and makes it ring at the same time ! I guess the excuse “I lost my keys isn’t valid anymore… Well I guess we have to adapt.

Finally, when you thought it could’t go any further than this, sometimes, once upon a hundred times, a projects stands out and succeed where so many have failed. The goKey provides either 8, 16 or 32gb options. For now it is only accessible via the USB cable, so not on the iPhone, but the MFI certification of another project which does just that, external memory available in iphone apps, tells me it could get into either this version or the next.

Fellow enthusiast have a few ideas for enhancing an already incredible project, which may or may not be included in the stretched goals, as so far there hasn’t been any. What most call for is the possibility to access data from the iPhone, which is a hurdle to get certification for, USB 3.0 which I haven’t even thought of mainly because my Macbook air from 2011 doesn’t has it and i’ve never felt the need for it, an increase in battery which the team is said to be working on the best they can, and the possibility of using it as a PowerPoint presenter for presentations to skip slides, which I find great and feasible with current hardware If I am not mistaken.

What’s more, the project has a referral system which refunds you 10$ everyone pledges from your own personal link. So far 20 people already won’t have to pay a single dim for their goKey. If you have friends and a network, there is a strong chance that might be your case too ! at the least you’ll probably get at least one 10$ off, which is better than nothing.

So hurry up to get yours, as there is a limited number of units still available !

Helios Bars – Transform any bike into a smart bike.

if you know about fixie, then you probably don’t want to add extra lights, speed counters, GPS to your bike. It would make it ugly. Helio bars can do all of it, in the bar:

The two models proposed, the bullhorn and the drop style look absolutly gorgeous :

The Helios includes one front light, which seems decently powerful, two side lights, which you can activate in blinking re when turning, a Low powered GPS, and a speed counter, which can make the two rear lights change color accordingly:

What’s more, the Helios comes with an iPhone app, in which you can set light color, anda bluetooth proximity sensor wich will light the bike when you arrive. The GPS function sin’t really included in the app, but a weird SMS system allows you to text your bike, and it will respond the exact location. I would have preferred a real time map, but for some reasons, it isn’t there.

Anyway, the Helios bars is the best bike gadget I’ve seen so far, and I’ll definitely buy one soon !

HiddenRadio2 bluetooth speaker is overwhelmingly good

A long time has passed since my last post, but rejoice, today’s awesome product might make you excuse me for that.

Introducing HiddenRadio2, a revision of the first iteration of the name HiddenRadio, which was rather well received by tech critics. The main drawback were FM usability and Sound not being so great after all.

but both of these concern seem to have been resolved with this year’s product.

In response to the hood muffling the sound and more generally relatively poor deep and eerie high, The team implemented a top of the line technology called dual “speaker neodymium“. Let see what that really means. Apparently they have a “high output to weight ratio which makes them ideal for a number of portable applications”. Perfect for the HiddenRadio2 isn’t it ? the result is cristal-clear highs and cavernous deeps:

About the FM radio, well, there is none now. Get over it. Life moves on. Honestly what use is there to an FM radio when you’ve got all these application that can stream thousands of radios from the internet like TuneIn Radio ?

But that is not all folks ! You did not honestly though it would be it did you ? HiddenRadio2 has still 3 main features you ant to hear about:

Let’s go over them from left to right, right ? That would totally makes sense. But let’s do the contrary like true anarchists.

Magic lift means you just have to touch the top to boot up the device like and raise the top like it’s an elevator from Star Trek or something.

Smart control is actually more or less the same thing as magic lift, in the way it uses the touch sensor on the top to enable simple control: tap once to pause, tap twice to go forward, or draw a circle clockwise to increase the volume. Hell yeah, you can even call siri ! As the HiddenRadio2 has noise-canceling mics and hands free calls software, My guess is that you’ll start using Siri a lot more with the Speaker than before. Anyway my thought is that it’s pretty damn cool.

Multipoint, I think you’ve guessed by now enables you to connect to multiple speakers at once. Two different use case: you can have one in each room, or enable stereo and use them to watch a movie or something.

Lastly, the battery last a whooping 15 hours, which is not the highest in the portable speakers jungle but still in the high end. It can deliver some 90db, meaning you’ll suffer hearing loss if you stay around it at max volume for too long.          In case the design wasn’t obvious enough, the HiddenRadio2 has a 360° sound, how could it not.

To conclude, I’de say that for 149$, it’s a rather admirable deal, if the sound is indeed better than before. However don’t wait for the kickstarter campaign to end, as retail versions will sell for some 199$. Whatever, just take a look at this comparaison, you won’t argue very long

Let’s fund Wally case !

I already talked about Wally Wallet, but the wally case differs a little it includes a physical case:

Apart from that, the wally wallet is the same, the idea behind it hasn’t changed: you can put a few credit card and swipe them out in an easy and funny way:

I guess If I had one I would spend the entire day opening and closing :p.

However, everything isn’t bright in Distil Union: The Wally case is not going to get funded, unless you help them, and soon ! The campaign still has 4 days to go, and as the creators put it, they just need 75 backers to successfully launch the Wally Case on kickstarter !

the compact wallet is the perfect compromise between accessibility and minimalism (hands-on review)

Hey guys ! today is a great day 😀 want to know why ? It’s my first ever hands-on review ! Let’s get started !

I saw, from far many, many, MANY minimalist wallets on kickstarter. the first one was, If I remember well, the slim. since then, and their incredible succes (220 000$), nobody can count how many young designers hoped to achieve the same. Kickstarter tells me there are 121 projects with “wallet” in their name. That’s huge. So how can the compact stand out of the plethora of those ? Well, in fact, by not trying too. Many want to innovate too much, and come up with ridiculous ideas, like this one if you want to laugh.

Anyway, my wallet used to be a mighty wallet, which already aims to make wallets thinners:

in real life, with all my cards inside, it looked like this:

2013-04-24 12.55.38   2013-04-24 12.56.58

Not so bad, but I don’t have much to cary, as you can see. After making a few sacrifices, here is what I choose to put in my compact wallet:

2013-04-24 12.58.31

As the compact wallet only has one metallic piece, the thickness is only the cards and the rubber band. After putting my cards in, It was about 0,8cm.

After a few days of use, I find it easier to manage than my previous wallet. cards couldn’t fall out, and the little clipping made it easier to stretch the rubber band and acces my cards. If you don’t have a tons of cards in it, as they propose no more than 12, but honestly, I’de say no more than 8, after that, the rubber band’s too stretched to mange easy acces to them.

What I also find great is the possibility to separate two deck you cards. I personally put business cards and fidelity cards on one side, and other credit, assurance cards, etc on the other.

finally the metallic texture fells good, and looks good.

There are, however, a few disadvantages.

I won’t say it holds less cards than usual wallets, because that’s the aim, but if you want to transpose your old into this one, you will have a few troubles. It is made to change you wallet’s use.

First, there are only three colors, including black. I don’t even imagine using the green one with white rubber band. Never.

Secondly, the rubber band’s finition could have been better, but the metallic piece highly compensate this default.

What’s the verdict ? I’m gonna stick with this new wallet until I buy an Iphone, then I’ll probably buy the SAFE wallet for Iphone 5. It is a great minimalist wallet, better than many of them, but not the king yet.

wodden keyboard for iMacs and Macbooks

to get an idea of how they look, I thought the wireless was the best example, but the keys are also available in a lighter tone, which I find more pleasant to look at:

Although the letters seem big, I imagine how comfortable it would be to type on these. You can find them on kickstarter, if they manage to launch the product.

the W/Me wristband mood and sport tracker

We know about many functionalities on fitness tracker: sleep cycles, steps, calories burned, which sport is being performed, social sharing, in-depth statistics  etc. However what I’m sure I haven’t seen yet is a mood tracker. And that is, among other things, what the W/ME can do.

The W/ME (I know weird name) has countless features:

  • W/Me CLOUD

I thinks that’s about all, If you want more info about those 10 features, their project page will explain it better than me.
